With its sweet smokiness it’s not hard to see why the Manhattan is a classic of the cocktail world. Not only a classic, it also has huge versatility past the initial question of Bourbon or Rye. Personally I prefer mine dry rather than sweet and made by the capable hands of the team at The American Bar at The Savoy with their homemade whisky laced cherries for garnish.
20ml Sweet Vermouth
Dash of Andostura Bitters
1 Maraschino Cherry
Place the in the cocktail mixer, pour in the rye, vermouth and bitters and stir till chilled. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with the cherry. Serve.
