Consistently ranked among the top 10 cocktail bars in the world you’ll find the Connaught Bar tucked in the corner behind the central staircase of the famous Connaught Hotel.
The decor is classic wood panelling painted a cool grey and highlighted with silver leaf with low marble tables, leather trim about the place.
The drinks menu is divided up into sections based on the style, or rather idea of the drink and the way they have built it. The barmen and mixologists have come up with a wide variety of drinks, many balancing subtle and aromatic flavours. The ‘Set In Stone’ is like a long sweet, vermouth led, martini. The Drinks are served after a palate cleanser, the bright red liquid is a combination of wine, port and other such ingredients.
The Connaught Martini, served from a leather clad trolly using Tanqueray 10 and your choice of 5 bitters to add a fragrance or herbal note depending on your choice. It may not be quite a classic martini but it’s certainly a nice take and well worth ordering.
The Connaught Bar is a place to go to explore their creations and the subtitles they contain, more than it is for classic cocktails. If you’re after classic cocktails there are a few other more suited bars of the same standard in London.
