Ole & Steen

Founded in Denmark in 2008, but with its roots stretching back over 20 years, 2016 finally saw Ole & Steen open up shop in London. From their first store in the new St James’s Market, they now have four more locations, including Canary Warf and the Nova development in Victoria, with plans for a further two.

Sleek, modern and very Scandi with its marble, leather and wood monotones, it is a welcome addition to the city and is by far one of the best coffee and bakery cafes on offer.

Serving up everything from breakfast to open sandwiches, stews, cakes, patisseries, and loaves of bread, alongside great coffee, its hard not to use it as a regular haunt for catching up with friends, holding informal meetings, or just popping in for a coffee and patisserie to go.

The patisseries really are hard not to fall head over heals for so, if you’re watching your waistline, send someone else to the counter to order the coffee. Personally I have a surprisingly soft spot for the Coconut Puff given it has a marzipan base, but that, topped with soft marshmallow come Italian meringue, coated in a thin crisp layer of dark chocolate and rolled in desiccated coconut, makes it almost irresistible to me. The quality and care in the patisseries is the key as to why they’re so good.

Best of all, they now do pre order and delivery.
