Still known to many of us as the Oyster Bar, the Atlantic Bar is one of the best places for fish in London. Over the last few years it has doubled in size inside and the terrace has been opened all year round to accommodate the ever dedicated crowd flocking to the bar housed to the left of the J Sheekey Restaurant.
The menu is both traditional and modern, with plates for one or for sharing. Unsurprisingly, oysters feature along with a fruits de mer, but the most traditional of all the dishes on offer and a long standing classic is Sheekey’s fish pie. While the half lobster isn’t particularly worth it, a pint of the Atlantic prawns and mayo is a must have; fresh and beautifully sweet they are superb.
The stone bass ceviche with plantain crisp on the raw menu shows why ceviche is such a popular cuisine these days, just as the shrimp burger is one of the best burgers you’ll find in London. New dishes rotate through regularly and, if listed, make sure you try the cod cheeks and the Korean Fried Cauliflower, both very different but terrific to dine on while knocking back a glass or fizz, wine or cocktail from the carefully curated drinks list.
